Discover City Limits

Walking into City Limits for the first time, I expected a standard small-town diner. What I found instead was a place that feels stitched into daily life at 4521 Texoma Pkwy, Sherman, TX 75090, United States. I’ve eaten here on a busy Friday night after a high school football game and on a quiet weekday lunch, and the experience holds steady no matter the crowd. The parking lot fills up fast, which already tells you something locals don’t need explained.

The menu leans heavily into classic American comfort food, but it’s not stuck in the past. Burgers come out thick and juicy, with patties cooked to order and buns that don’t fall apart halfway through. One visit, I watched a cook flatten fresh beef on the grill, seasoning it by hand before the sizzle evened out. That attention to process matters. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, nearly 7 out of 10 diners say food quality is the main reason they return to a restaurant, and City Limits clearly understands that. Their chicken-fried steak is a standout, coated evenly and fried until crisp without being greasy, then finished with peppered gravy that tastes homemade, not poured from a packet.

What really keeps people talking in reviews is consistency. I’ve overheard regulars mention that they’ve been coming here for years because they know exactly what they’re getting. That reliability is harder to achieve than it sounds. Restaurants that maintain steady preparation methods and supplier relationships tend to perform better long-term, a point often highlighted by hospitality experts like Danny Meyer, who emphasizes repeatable systems over flashy trends. City Limits follows that philosophy without advertising it.

Service plays a big role in the overall feel. Servers move quickly but still make time to check in, even during rush hours. On one visit, a waitress noticed my drink was low before I did, refilling it with a smile and a casual you good over here that felt genuine. Small moments like that build trust, especially in a diner-style setting where people expect familiarity more than formality.

The location on Texoma Parkway makes it easy to reach whether you’re coming from downtown Sherman or passing through on a road trip. That accessibility adds to its reputation as a go-to stop rather than a special-occasion spot. Families, workers on lunch break, and older couples all seem to share the space comfortably. It’s common to hear someone recommend the place by saying just get the burger and fries, you can’t mess that up, which is high praise in a town with plenty of food options.

Desserts deserve a mention too. The pies rotate, but when the pecan pie is available, it’s worth saving room. The filling sets properly, not runny, with a balanced sweetness that suggests careful measurement rather than guesswork. Research from food science journals often points out that consistent baking results come from controlled ratios and temperatures, and you can taste that discipline here.

No restaurant is perfect, and City Limits isn’t trying to be. During peak times, wait times can stretch longer than expected, and the dining room can get loud. If you’re looking for a quiet, upscale experience, this may not fit the bill. But for honest food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a menu that delivers what it promises, the place earns its reputation. The steady stream of positive reviews online reflects what happens in real life, plate after plate, day after day.

  • Service was wonderful. Fried zucchini is hard to find anymore and theirs was excellent. Will definitely be back for that. My husband wasn't that fond of the turkey cheese sandwich. He said he will definitely try something next time.

  • First time here, and it was definitely the right choice! We tried the chicken fried steak sandwich, and it was incredible — crispy, flavorful, and perfect with a side of gravy drizzled over the top. The hand-cut fries were the kind you don’t want to cover with chili or cheese — just enjoy them as they are, because they’re that good. The fried zucchini was a really unique and delicious surprise, fried just right and awesome with ranch. We’ve eaten a lot of places around Texas, and this one truly stands out — a hidden gem that nails classic comfort food done right. We’ll definitely be back!

  • We traveled up to Sherman Texas yesterday for another live auction and chose to try a local favorite called City Limits. They do have patio seating so Buddy joined us too. Taylor and I both picked the Fish And Chips with fresh cut fries and house made tartar sauce. Huge pieces of fish, steaming hot and absolutely delicious. Very crowded during the noon day rush but it looks like they were well staffed and getting customers fed quickly. We will eat here again

  • 5 stars across the board!!! I love this place. Food fresh and delicious. This place is packed ALL the time (That should tell you all you need to know ) If you don't mind waiting about 30 mins for them to make your fresh food and maybe waiting for a table, then give this place a try, it will be your new fav!

  • Food was great. Service top notch. Only issue I had was I had a delicious steak that was served on a paper plate and it was so juicy it soaked the plate and I was getting paper plate when cutting my steak. Not good! Otherwise they would have gotten 5 stars.

  • A friend of my who grew up in this area of North Texas suggested City Limits if I wanted a good burger…since most of my reviews are about burgers I have it a try and was glad I did. I arrived just before 2:00 on a Saturday and there was quite the lunch crowd. Since I was by myself, I opted to sit at the bar but the folks ahead of me in line were promptly seated within a few minutes and a group of six came in shortly after that and were seated fairly quickly. I ordered a bacon burger with no cheese and fries. They did not offer Sweet Tea which I think should be a staple for any casual restaurant in Texas so I opted for the next best thing, a Dr Pepper. Had I felt like drinking something with a little more bite, they Ajax a pretty good selection of drinks from the bar. My burger came out in a reasonable time. While waiting, I couldn’t help but notice how many of the patrons were regulars and how personable the waitresses and other staff were with each visitor. Very friendly place!! My burger was well seasoned and just right! Lettuce, tomato, pickle, onions and mustard came standard. Fries were thick cut seasoned fries. Very good! The ladies at the bar were very attentive, to me and made sure I had plenty of refills while taking care of lots of drink orders. The only negative was the bar stools were a little short for the bar. It made it a little awkward picking up a burger and taking a bite and I am pretty tall. The guy next to me ordered a beer and spilled it for the same reason. Just slightly awkward. I would recommend City Limits to anyone in the area or passing through!! Next time, I think I will try their chicken strips, they looked mouth wateringly good!
